Beware of this Facebook Scam targeting business page admins!

Several of our clients have recently received this very believable scam impersonating Facebook Support. These scams direct to a Facebook page or another site where they attempt to capture the user’s information.

These emails have an official-sounding subject line and start with a very attention-grabbing claim saying things like:

– Profile Flagged for Spamming Activity
– Report from a third party that the content you posted infringes or otherwise violates their rights.
– We have temporarily suspended your account due to some activity that goes against our terms of service

While there is a slight chance this could be real. A good rule of thumb is if you don’t have any notifications in your Page Quality tab you should be good to go. We know these claims sound very serious and can cause stress on your side as well as with any clients. To help here are some signs that the email in question is a phishing attempt.

The email does not come from a Meta Owned domain. If it is a Facebook-related email, it will be sent from a URL like facebook.com or support.facebook.com. These phishing emails are sent from emails like:Salesforce.com (A common CRM system) fbcase105023@1946zn5ll3gttik2vox1gtjefxp2azcdfwjq50avlomd4g3sxa.8d-avevkea1.um8.case.salesforce.com
Caseaccountsmeta.com

The link to “Request A Review” or “File An Appeal” links to a Facebook page. When you inspect the URL you will know it’s a Facebook Page because it links to facebook.com/ followed by a string of numbers. An example is: https://lnkd.in/eDeCHDKT  Real links from Facebook almost always point to your account and look more detailed. Here are a couple of examples: https://lnkd.in/eeN9c65X or https://lnkd.in/ewh9vRhh

The email does not have an unsubscribe link or has one that links to the same Facebook page as the CTA link.

It is missing a footer, in virtually all emails that I have received from Facebook the following footer is included: Meta Platforms, Inc., Attention: Community Support, 1 Facebook Way, Menlo Park, CA 94025

While not guaranteed most real emails from Facebook include personalization. They will address it to the recipient’s name. page name and/or potentially include their email in the footer. An example of what a real footer looks like is: This message was sent to matt@motivatedmarketing.com. If you don’t want to receive these emails from Meta in the future, please unsubscribe here.

Meta will not link to a Linked-In link or a non-Meta owned domain.

Please forward this information to your peers and clients if you feel they can benefit, as these emails are becoming very frequent.

Here are some examples of what these emails look like.  Its shocking how real they appear.
